May 05, 2017 Program Kick-off and first Beyond1435 Meetup on May 2nd, 2017

After selecting 5 disruptive startups for the first Beyond1435 batch on April 5th, 2017, we officially kicked-off the program on April 24th. During the first week, the focus lay on welcoming the teams here on the ground in Berlin, having 1-1 meetings with each startup and making sure that they meet their peers of the Future of Maintenance batch.

On May 2nd, we started the week with the Mentor Mixer and our Beyond1435 Inaugural Meetup. For the Mentor Mixer, 15 of the more than 50 mentors of the program joined us at DB mindbox. The startups had the opportunity to pitch their companies, receive feedback and jump into more in-depth discussions with the mentors afterwards.

Christin Friedrich, Managing Director of Innovestment and one of the mentors, was impressed by the event and the pitches:

I like how professional the Mentor Mixer is organized by the Beyond1435 team and the quality of the startups is also very high! I had a great time discussing their ideas in detail and getting to know some of my fellow mentors.

Dan Danay from Airmada, one of the startups in the program, mentioned that

the quality of the connections I made today and the experience of the mentors is very high-level. I’m excited to meet all the other mentors throughout the program!

After the Mentor Mixer, 100 guests joined us for the inaugural meetup. The evening started with a short presentation of the startups in the program, followed by an insightful keynote by Richard Süselbeck, Developer Advocate at HERE. He spoke about the challenges of product development and creating good developer relations in the digital age.

Following the keynote, 6 startups from the Berlin community pitched their ideas and products around Smart City tech:

To finish the two onboarding weeks, we had a traditional German BBQ and a workshop with DB Digital Ventures to discuss the startups’ expectations for the upcoming three months and how the program can support them in the best possible way.
